Journalist. advocate. COmmunications

Hi from Milan!

I am a senior at Agnes Scott College pursuing a degree in Africana Studies. I have four years of experience as a reproductive health advocate through campus involvement and social media content creation. My journey into Reproductive Justice began during a weekend leadership conference sponsored by URGE (Unite for Reproductive and Gender Equity) in Atlanta, Georgia.

During my sophomore and junior years of college, I prepared for nursing school, blending my grassroots advocacy with a touch of knowledge in the health sciences, taking courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology.

Self-Discovery and Advocacy

After a brief stint in nursing school, I realized that, although I enjoyed learning about the intricacies of the human body, my passion for writing, media, and advocacy was undeniable. Joining my college's student newspaper rekindled my long-standing love for these fields.

I decided to leave nursing school and transfer back to Agnes Scott to pursue a career in communications. I majored in Africana Studies because of its strong emphasis on research, public speaking, and critical thinking.

Interning at the Bazelon Center for Mental Heath Law

While making my career transition from nursing to advocacy and communications, I interned at the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law, an advocacy non-profit in Washington, D.C. As a Summer 2023 Strategic Communications intern, I learned about the inner workings of a non-profit organization, gaining experience in media relations, content creation, and copywriting.

One of my most memorable experiences was attending a virtual White House conference, where I took notes and shared them with a fellow intern. It was exciting to report back to the Bazelon Center on the key takeaways from the conference. Fun!

Some side projects as an intern include monitoring media mentions for the Bazelon Center through Google Alerts, editing newsletters before publication and editing talking points for virtual events.

Journey to Her Campus Media

In September 2023, I joined Her Campus Media, the number one media brand for college students and Gen Z, as an Entertainment and Culture Writer for the National Writer Program.

I fondly remember my grandma taking me to the Winn-Dixie supermarket where I'd rush to read the latest editions of "Tiger Beat" and "BOP" magazines. So, it was no surprise when I developed a love for entertainment news as a tween.

Working with Her Campus has been an amazing experience as a student journalist and writer. I've covered everything from Taylor Swift's Eras Tour to Season 6 of Netflix's ‘Love Is Blind,’ and even trending news like whether there's really another baby coming to the Kardashian clan (spoiler: the rumors were false!).

Joining the Inaugural election team

Interested in advocacy and civil rights from a young age, I always knew I wanted a career that would allow me to pursue my interests in media, politics, and writing. When I learned that Her Campus Media was launching its first-ever election team, I quickly submitted my application and, to my delight, I was accepted!

In December, I wrote our first profile on Averie Bishop, a candidate for the Texas House of Representatives. We discussed topics ranging from reproductive health care to her favorite campaign songs (go, Beyoncé!). Since then, I've interviewed Sabrina Bousbar, another Gen Z leader running for Congress in Florida's 13th District to talk about Florida's climate crisis and more.

Enrollment Marketing at

Agnes Scott College

While writing for Her Campus Media, I also began working as an Enrollment Marketing and Communications Assistant at Agnes Scott College. I wasn't new to Agnes Scott—I had worked as an Event Marketing Intern for the Office of Alumnae Relations in Summer 2022.

Currently, I provide social media support during in-person events, write featured articles for the Admission blog, pitch marketing campaigns for Instagram, and identify students for longer-form profiles to encourage potential Scotties to apply and enroll at the college. Particularly, I learned a lot about marketing and communicating effectively to the youth, women, and diverse populations.

FUN FACT:

While working at my college’s student newspaper, I pitched the idea for the first in-print profile of the BSU House, a central hub for the campus’s Black Student Union, which was then picked up and reported by a fellow journalist!

Mini Fun Facts:

In my free-time, I love to inline skate, read ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul’ books, write poetry, and listen to music.
